Background

Creative Engineers Ltd. [CEL] started in a humble way in 1981 when Mr. Md. Tabibul Huq, an Electrical Engineer and two of his friends founded the company. Initially the company was doing business in the field of supply of electrical equipment such as Power Transmission System, Generators, Substation etc. In 1981 the company got the franchise of Haushahn GmbH of Germany to promote the sale of their product Elevator in Bangladesh, which was later merged with Schindler, Switzerland. The business grew steadily due to honest effort and forward looking policy of the management. In 1984 the company got the franchise of O&K Rolltreppen of Germany to promote the sale of their product Escalators in Bangladesh. In 1992 CEL got the franchise of GEC-Alsthom, UK (Paxman & Ruston Division) to promote the sale of their product – Marine Diesel Engine & Power Plant, which is now merged with MAN B&W and renamed as MAN B&W Paxman Diesels Ltd. & MAN B&W Ruston Diesels Ltd. In 1992 CEL opened its Maritime Division and got the first Maritime Project on Renovation and Re-engining of Bangladesh Navy Vessel, BNS Karnaphuli.

Strength of the company

Bangladesh being developing country the market size of the Elevator & Escalator was not that big until 1995. But the company remained the major market player in the field of supply & installation of elevator & escalators. As the company grew its field of activity became wider. Initially the company had manpower of 10 persons. To cope up with growing activities in 2009 now it has 438 people, of which 76 are management staff and 362 are non-management staff. The technical strength lies with the efficiency and expertise of 22 Graduate Engineers and 48 Diploma Engineers who are at the core of the Company.

In 1999 the German Company Haushahn GmbH was sold to the World giant SCHINDLER Management Ltd. of Switzerland. After the changeover, the company was looking for another partner in this field and SCHINDLER Management Ltd. found Creative Engineers Ltd. as the right partner and appointed them as their Distributor for Bangladesh market terminating their earlier agent who served them for more than 29 years in the Bangladesh territory.

Till date CEL has supplied over 847 Lifts and nearly 215 Escalators to most of the high rise buildings in the country including the prestigious "Bashundhara Shopping City" and "NAM Summit" building projects.

With the passage of time the spectrum of activities and services have become diverse. CEL not only supplies goods, it also provides services. CEL now provides goods and services in the field of mechanical, electrical & shipbuilding engineering. Since 1992 CEL has been very active in the maritime sector and took challenging projects in this field. The first project was re-engining of a very fast and sophisticated vessel of Bangladesh Navy. On successful completion of the project CEL kept on undertaking projects in the marine field one after another, includes the construction of two number very high power harbor tug boats in cooperation with Damen, Holland. These tugs apart from towing big Naval ships was also equipped with latest fire fighting equipment. CEL provided the design and material package for Khulna Shipyard to build a Patrol Boat for Bangladesh Coast Guard in cooperation with ASIMAR, Thailand. In this field CEL also has provided specialized technical services to the client. CEL has a pool of highly qualified and experienced Marine Engineers and Naval Architects.

CEL has another wing –“Pump Division” to deal with Irrigation Pumps, Municipal Pumps, Sewage Pumps etc. CEL is the agent of EBARA Pumps of Japan and Sabar Pumps of India. CEL has been successful to secure a contract from Ebara Corporation, Japan for Rehabilitation of Pumping Plant of G K Irrigation Project under BWDB the contract value of which is US$26 Million. CEL has supplied more than 10,000 sets of “Sabar brand” Submersible Pumps to Barind Multipurpose Development Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture from 1992-2005.

CEL is the first Bangladeshi Company, who has successfully supplied, Installed & Commissioned a number of Microwave Radio Links & OMNI-SKIP MUX for Bangladesh Telephone & Telegraph Board (BTTB) in 2003.

Management

MANAGING DIRECTOR

*Mr. Tabibul Huq* graduated in Electrical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) Dhaka in 1975. He joined Bangladesh Army in Corps of EME and served until 1979. He was awarded Chief of Army Staff's Cane on graduation from Bangladesh Military Academy. He was trained in Germany on Digital Field Communication System for Bangladesh Army in 1977. He left Bangladesh Army and took up a job in Malaysia as Project Engineer of Hydro-Electric Power Project where he served till 1980. In 1980 he started his own business in the name of Creative Engineers Ltd. - a pioneer in Elevator & Escalator business in Bangladesh. He started the company with 3 staffs and presently the company strength is about 500. Mr. Huq took several Technical & Management training in Germany, Switzerland & India on Elevators & Escalators. He has traveled to many countries of the world and gained experience in promotion of business of international standard. He has attended many seminars at home & abroad. He is one of the Founder Director of Mercantile Bank Ltd., a private bank having 45 branches in Bangladesh. The turnover of the bank in the year 2008 was US$ 1.5 Billion.

*Mr. Md. Abdul Khaleque* graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) Dhaka in 1975. He joined Technological Services Ltd. (a consulting company) as Design Engineer for Mechanical & Air Conditioning Systems of different project. Mr. Khaleque has designed the air conditioning system of many projects which include British Airways Sales Office, Dhaka, Jiban Bima Bhaban 24 Storied Building, Pubali Bank Head Office Building , T&T Board Office Bldg., Atomic Energy Centre, Ramna, & BEXIMCO Pharmaceuticals. He has also designed 100,000 Gallons capacity Swimming Pool for Zia Fertilizer Factory Ltd. Residential Project. Mr. Khaleque served Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) as an Asstt. Engineer from 1976 to 1977. Mr. Khaleque left the country in 1978 and took up a job under the Ministry of Electricity, Govt. of Libya and was posted at Power Station of Ummal Jadwal, Al Shaty under Electricity Corporation Sabah. He was responsible for the total management & operation of the Power Plant until 1985. He returned to Bangladesh in 1985 and joined Creative Engineers Ltd. as Director. He is responsible for the Field Operation & Maintenance of the Elevators & Escalators. He is one of the founder Director of Global Insurance Ltd. a private General Insurance Company.

*Mrs. Mahmuda Huq* received her B.Sc. (Hons) & M.Sc degree from the University of Dhaka in 1985 & 1986 respectively. She joined the company as Director in 1987 and is now looking after the Human Resources Division of the company. She has traveled to many countries of the world and gained substantial experience in business.

*Mr. Mahbub M Talukder* received his B.Com (Hons) in Accounting, M.Com in Finance from the University of Dhaka in 1978 & 1980 respectively. He served Bengal Group of Companies from 1979 to 1991 in different capacities. He was the Deputy Managing Director of the Group from 1985 to 1991. During the long period he has earned a vast experience to promote business with Korean, Japanese, European & Chinese companies. He has negotiated with Hyundai Motor Company of South Korea to get the franchise in the name Kirk Bangladesh Ltd.- one of the company under Bengal Group. Mr. Talukder joined Creative Engineers Ltd. in 1991 as Director. He took active part in the reorganization of the company to give a vibrant life and brought the company to international level. Mr. Talukder has received many formal training in Korea & Japan. He has also attended the conference of Hyundai Motor Company in 1984, 1985 & 1987. He was also member of the entourage of the official delegation to Korea in 1985. He presented key note paper in many seminar organized by Bangladesh Management Development Centre, Dhaka University, Rotary Club etc. He is also one of the founder Director of Global Insurance Ltd. Mr. Talukder is Member & Director of Rotary Club of Metropolitan Dhaka and actively participating in Rotary movement in Bangladesh.

*Mr. Md. Rabiul Huq* graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) in 1980. He had 15 years of experience to work as manager in a multi-national Japanese Trading Company – KINSHO CORPORATION dealing with export and marketing of Mitsubishi products namely – vehicles, engines, generators, forklift etc. manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation & Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. Japan. He is known as a successful Manager in Japanese community. Mr. Huq was trained at Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Kyoto, Japan, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nagoya, Japan & Mitsubishi Generator at Sagamihara Works, Japan. He has also received Technical Training on large size engine (3500 HP) high speed marine propulsion engine at GEC-Alsthom Paxman Ltd. UK (presently known as MAN & B&W Paxman). Mr. Huq also attended the Training Programme - "Development of Selling Skills" at Mumbai, India offered by Clyde Brighton Associates, Oxford, UK. Mr. Huq joined Creative Engineers Ltd. as Director in 1994 and took active part to diversify the business of the company in Defense & Energy. Mr. Huq is an active Rotarian and Member of the Rotary Club of Dhaka Cosmopolitan which received the best award of the Rotary District-3280 in 1999.

*Maj Gen Syed Shafayetul Islam (Retd)* joined CEL as Director in 2006. He has extensive experience in business development. He Looks after overseas business of the Company.

Ashuganj Thermal Power Station 3 rd , 4 th & 5 th Unit ( 3x150MW) - CEL was associated with Mitsui & Co. Japan, Korea Dev. Corporation, Korea & Pacific Engineering Co. Korea. CEL worked as promoter of the foreign company to get the business.

Our Engineering Team worked with Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. of Korea (EPC Contractor) for 386 MW AES Horipur Power Plant & 450 MW Meghnaghat Power Plant .

We were associated with Sumitomo Corporation for supply & installation of Large Axial Flow Pumping Plant of Meghna-Dhonagoda Irrigation Project under BWDB early 1980's.

We were associated with Golden Bell Trading Co. Korea for supply & installation of Raw Water Intake Pump for 20 IMGD Capacity Mohora Water Treatment Plant of Chittagong Water Supply & Sewerage Authority.

We were associated with Mitsui & Co. & Toyo Engineering Co. of Japan for Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Project under Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation.

The re-engining/re-powering of sophisticated high speed ships of Bangladesh Navy is another field of CEL many achievements. So far CEL has undertaken 3 major renovation project of the navy and provided state of the art technical support.

CEL and Damen Shipyard of Netherlands has signed an agreement for design, supervision & material packages for construction of 2 Tug Boats. The contract value is about US$7.36 million and both the tug-boats have been handed over to the Bangladesh Navy.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority – Design, manufacture & supply of Buoy Tender Vessel in association with Shiptech Pte. Ltd. Singapore & Khulna Shipyard Ltd.

Barind Multipurpose Development Authority, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of Bangladesh – CEL has supplied more than 10,000 sets Submersible Pumps. We hold the franchise of Sabar Pumps Pvt. Ltd. India for this irrigation pump.

Bangladesh Navy - We are also pursuing other projects like high power salvage vessels, fast patrol boats for Coast Guard and other projects of the Bangladesh Navy .

BTTB - CEL is the 1 st Bangladeshi Company who has successfully supplied, Installed & Commissioned a number of Microwave Radio Links & OMNI-SKIP MUX for Bangladesh Telephone & Telegraph Board (BTTB) in 2003.

Bangladesh Water Development Board – Ebara Corporation Ltd. Got the contract for supply and installation of 3 Nos. pumps off all irrigation project. The contract value is US $ 25 Million (JY 26 Million) completion time 30 months (September 2007) CEL is the local agent on sub-contract.
